Graveyard of the Fireflies (afterthoughts)

Thinking back to the first time I watched this movie, with the only reasoning being that it was animated by studio ghibli whose past films I loved, I was going into this movie blind. With false expectations that it would be a happy go lucky film that would be funny or entertaining. I was disappointed at the time because it was a sad movie, and I did not like sad movies. It was a film with hard bitter truths and realism..the dark side of humanity in a way, that takes place in war times. Real life stories that don’t get told often in the media. With death and coping and living in such a documented way, the focus being set on these 2 children. It discourages war, and depicts a kind of stream of consciousness that now that I think about it, I find it intriguing. Now I think of the movie as educational for the soul, through feeling for morality as well. It teaches that for me, to appreciate the family you have no matter how small it may be or how big. To be thankful for the way that you live and your parents and the struggles and hardships that they have gone through for you to come into being. To exist and live comfortably.
